[She appreciates him more than she can say. She hates this place, and no little part of it is because they love throwing private details out where everyone can see them]
Hey.
I'm--here. Rey let me stay with her for a bit. The city sent a babysitter and I--
I might actually take you up on that. I don't even--I haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it. Trying to stay busy.
[this is the third person Nile was close to in as many weeks to vanish on her, keeping busy right now looks like continuing The Doctor's operations, the sonic weapons he was working on, trying to keep things running on that front once she's done with work. If she keeps busy by working longer at Red Emerald until she's exhausted, and then meets up with Hartley to help into the night, then back to Rey's to catch a few hours of sleep. It's--not healthy, she's aware enough to know that, but it's working. She's not drowning, so there's that]
[ He would do the same. He has done the same, when he has lost someone who meant a lot to him, he can't even imagine what it would be like to be alone here. He's never had to experience that before. ]
[She's not totally alone. She's got Nicky--which helps, but he's got Reaper and they're building something and she knows he insists she's not a third wheel and she's welcome any time, but she's always incredibly conscious of the space she's taking up.]
Thank you.
It's just--it's been a lot of people lately, I guess.
Dean. The Doctor. Andy. I feel like I need to start taping people down. Or not letting them out of my sight.
[ He didn't say anything about that, when it happened. As much as he does say whatever happens to be on his mind, that tends to stop when it comes to talking about anything that's weighing him down. His friends have a hard enough time with these things without him adding to it. ]
If you come over here we can keep each other in our sights for a while.
[If she could read his mind, Nile would give him a look. She gets it, she's doing basically the same thing here: she only reached out to Nicky right when it happened. If the City hadn't splashed it across the network in their stupid finder, she may not have told anyone. Pretended things were fine, but the point is--he should let his friends carry some of the load. He's worth it.
He hits on one of her fears though, and she lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding]
[ That's one of the advantages to owning their own business. They make their own schedules, and they're especially flexible with their line of work. Not that he would have hesitated to blow off plans for the rest of the afternoon otherwise. ]
Just get your ass over here already, unless you want me to come kidnap you.
[At some point, maybe a few weeks from now, when the loss of Andy isn't so fresh, when she's a little less angry about the entire situation that is Duplicity, Nile might reflect that without it, she wouldn't have ended up with the friends she has.
[ This never gets easier, seeing someone he cares about ache from a deeply felt loss. It's hard, it always is, but he knows how strong Nile is, she'll pull through this. She just doesn't have to do it alone. ]

And if you want to talk I'm here.
Or not talk. Whatever works.
[ Everybody has different ways of coping with things like, he figures that the important thing is to make sure she knows that she's not alone. ]

She's damn lucky to have them, is the thing.]
